It´s been a long time...

re.

That´s what I would´ve said back in my IRC days, when I came back from an absence of several days. I realize that it isn´t really fitting in this case, because my last blog post was two years ago. A lot of things have happened during those 24 months, I quit my job and edited my life plan - now I am self-employed and loving it. And, as it happens, I think I got time to continue the Church of Chiptune.

Maybe some of my "old" subscribers are still with me - I´d appreciate that.

So, without further ado, here´s the tune of the day. Something "new school" by one of the best contemporary chiptune artists: Dubmood.

64K Demo: "Candytron" by "Farbrausch"

The demo scene is still alive and kicking. The following demo named "Candytron" won the 64k competition at Breakpoint '03 (a former scene gathering in Germany). Made by german demo group "Farbrausch", it is incredibly well made - nice graphics and arrangement, and, once again, a killer soundtrack.

When you are watching this, remember: The whole thing weighs in at UNDER 64.000 Bytes! You already reach 64 kbytes with one compressed mid-sized jped image. Incredible work. By the way, if you like what you see, check out Farbrausch at http://www.farb-rausch.de/ .

"Chipdisk #3" by Razor - 30+ tracks, 800 KB

Loads of great chiptune tracks in less than 1 Megabyte - "Chipdisks" do the trick. They come complete with an audio engine and several tracks, in this case over 30 by well-known artists like dubmood, lesnik and blz.

Download this great disk here - don´t worry, the file is clean. Just 50+ minutes of chiptune goodness!

Not a thing of the past...

The chiptune music scene is still going strong. One of the most well-known artists is "dubmood", a musician from Sweden. He is producing music for the notorious cracking group "Razor 1911". Besides, he is releasing CDs with his music and doing live gigs. He even has his own music label called "Data Airlines". Check out his website at http://www.elapse.se/dubmood/ .

The following track is called "Toffelskater", which in my opinion is one of the best chiptune tracks ever created. Dubmood did a remix 4 years ago, which isn´t "pure" chiptune - but it packs a punch. Check it out!
